Eye protection is an absolute must for clay pigeon shooting, as it is for all kinds of recreational shooting sports, if you want to protect your eyes - but you’ll find that there are various different lens tints to choose from that could make a difference to your shooting prowess, depending on the conditions you’re operating in.
Different lenses will filter light in various ways, helping you to see your target better and improve your chances of hitting it.
For example, if you’re shooting in low light or on a cloudy day, you might find amber lenses the best option as these will add contrast to what you’re seeing and help the target stand out.
Or if it’s bright and sunny, and you’re shooting against an open background, wearing brown lenses can help enhance the colours of the target, making it easier to see… and therefore hit!
If you know you’re going to be shooting at an orange target in dull light against a green backdrop then a yellow tint is likely to help you.
For those of you who are not keen on the idea of switching between different glasses, you’ll find that the likes of purple or clear lenses are perhaps the best option, as these are both excellent all-rounders and will help you shoot at your best, no matter what conditions you’re dealing with.
Alternatively, you could just go for photochromic lenses that cleverly adapt to different lighting conditions, so all the hard work is done for you!
